Episode 25: Structural Inflation Is Here to Stay — and the President Just Said So

"Certain levels of inflation will also pay off that debt very rapidly. Very rapidly."

That's President Trump, in an hour-long interview with TIME magazine, answering a question about interest rates and the national debt.

In this short solo episode, Joe Withrow uses that remark to make a simple argument: the U.S. is heading toward structural inflation, not a clean fiscal fix. If the government cannot balance the budget or seriously reduce the debt, inflation becomes the path of least resistance.

Joe starts with the campaign trail. Trump talked about balancing the budget and paying down the debt, and Elon Musk talked up DOGE and $2 trillion in cuts to waste, fraud, and abuse.

Joe thinks that's exactly what needs to happen if we ever want to address the affordability problem in American cities. But so far there's no sign of the political will in Congress to make those tough decisions, and Joe reads Trump's comment to TIME as an admission of that.

That leaves two options: inflation or default. And they aren't going to default.

To be fair, the administration is working to cut regulations and enact policies that drive economic growth. Strong growth alongside inflation is more manageable, because it brings strong wage growth with it.

Even so, structural inflation hits hard for the individuals and households who don't understand it and aren't prepared for it. The goal now is to understand what's happening and get prepared.

That's what the inaugural Phoenician League Investment Summit is built to do. Sixteen independent analysts, each a true operator in their area of specialty, will share real insights, unique perspectives, and robust investment strategy. Joe says the comment validates exactly what the Summit will focus on, and the investment strategy behind the Phoenician League as a whole.
